Pulley: Removing and installing, air conditioner compressor, Denso

Note

• The pulley is sensitive to impact and should therefore be treated with extreme care.
• If the pulley overload safeguard has been tripped, check the freedom of movement of the air conditioner compressor before the pulley is replaced. Replace the air conditioner compressor if stiff.
• If the overload safeguard of the drive plate has been tripped, the pulley can rotate with the outer section of the drive plate without the air conditioner compressor shaft and the hexagon attached to the drive plate (inner section of drive plate) also turning.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

• Commercially available oil filter strap wrench

Removal:

• Remove poly V-belt .
• Detach the cap -1-.
• Support the pulley with an oil filter strap wrench and screw out the bolts -arrows-.

• Unscrew the nut -2- whilst providing support at the drive shaft -1- of the air conditioner compressor.
• Detach the drive plate -3- with the nut.

Note

• The torque for driving the air conditioner compressor is applied to the air conditioner compressor shaft by way of the bolted joint of the drive plate.
• If in the course of air conditioner compressor operation the drive plate has become so firmly attached to the air conditioner compressor shaft that it can no longer be unfastened (the 7 mm hexagon can no longer transmit the necessary torque), the air conditioner compressor must be replaced.

• Remove circlip -2-.
• Detach the pulley -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal; note the following.

Note Replace the circlip.

• The drive shaft for the air conditioner compressor must be cleaned before installing the pulley.
• Adapt the pulley to the air conditioner compressor drive shaft.
  • without having to exert force.
• Insert the circlip in the correct position.
  • Flat side facing air conditioner compressor
• The thread of the drive shaft for the air conditioner compressor must be cleaned before installing the drive plate.

Note Thread of new drive plate has been lubricated at factory with a pre-determined amount of a specific grease.

• Remove poly V-belt .
• Detaching and attaching pulley.
