Assembly overview - steering box, left-hand drive

Caution

The following work must not be performed while the universal joint is separated from the steering rack: Not adhering to these instructions will result in irreparable damage.

Steering

  1. - Spreader clip
  2. - Steering column
  3. - Bolt
    • Tightening torque
  4. - Steering box
    • Removing and installing
    • Different versions possible.
    • With the power steering control unit - J500-
    • This may be checked with the "Guided fault location" of the - Vehicle diagnostic tester

Note If a new steering box has been installed, the mounting holes of the heat shield have not yet been drilled.

These are drilled when inserting the bolts of the shield.

  1. - Nut
    • Always renew after removing
    • 20 Nm +90º
  2. - Left wheel bearing housing
  3. - Bolt
    • Always renew after removing
    • 70 Nm +90º
  4. - Sub-frame
  5. - Right wheel bearing housing
  6. - Heat shield
    • Different versions possible depending on engine version.
  7. - Bolt
    • Either 3x or 4x are fitted depending on engine version.
    • 8 Nm
    • These bolts are re-usable
  8. - Wire
