Removing and installing brake disc, brake caliper FS III
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque wrench 2-10 Nm - VAG 1783-
Removing:
- Remove wheels.
- Remove the brake pads.
- Screw out bolt - arrow - for brake disc - 1 -.
- Remove brake disc -1- from the wheel hub.
Installation:
- Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces of the brake disc and wheel bearing.
- Fit brake disc onto wheel hub.
Note Take care to keep the brake disc straight when fitting it on the wheel hub.
Caution Use new bolts. |
- Screw in the bolt for the brake disc.
- Fit the brake pads.
WARNING Depress the brake pedal vigorously several times "when stationary" to ensure that the brake pads are appropriately bedded in for normal operating conditions. Make sure that the brakes work properly before the vehicle is driven on the road. |
Removing and installing brake disc, FN III brake caliper
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque wrenches - VAG 1332-
- Torque wrench 2-10 Nm - VAG 1783-
Note Remove brake carrier together with brake caliper.
Removing:
- Remove wheels.
Note
- In order to be able to loosen the brake calliper from the brake disc more easily, push the brake pad -3- away slightly as shown in the illustration using suitable pliers -1-.
- Insert a rubber piece -2- or something similar between the pliers and the brake calliper in order to avoid damaging the brake calliper paint.
- Unscrew the bolts -arrows- for attaching the brake carrier to the wheel bearing housing.
- Remove the brake carrier together with the brake caliper -1-.
- Secure the assembly with a wire so that no pressure is applied to the wheel bearing housing by the weight of the brake caliper and that it is not damaged.
- Screw out bolt - arrow - for brake disc - 1 -.
- Remove brake disc -1- from the wheel hub.
Installation:
- Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces of the brake disc and wheel bearing.
- Fit brake disc onto wheel hub.
Note Take care to keep the brake disc straight when fitting it on the wheel hub.
Caution Use new bolts. |
- Screw in the bolt for the brake disc.
- Fit the brake carrier and brake caliper assembly into the wheel bearing.
- Secure the brake carrier with new bolts.

Removing and installing brake disc, Brembo brake caliper
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque wrench 2-10 Nm - VAG 1783-
Note It is not necessary to disconnect the brake hose from the brake caliper when removing the brake caliper.
- Remove brake caliper without disconnecting brake hose.
- Secure brake caliper with wire so that weight of brake caliper does not stress or damage brake hose.
- Unscrew bolt securing brake disc.
- Take brake disc off wheel hub.
Installation:
- Thoroughly clean the contact surfaces of the brake disc and wheel bearing.
- Fit brake disc onto wheel hub.
Note Take care to keep the brake disc straight when fitting it on the wheel hub.
Caution Use new bolts. |
- Screw in the bolt for the brake disc.
- Install brake caliper.
