Checking the electric vacuum pump
- With the ignition switched off, connect the vehicle diagnostic tester to the 16 pin diagnosis plug of the vehicle -arrow-.
- Switch ignition on
- Coding checked and rectified if necessary
- Event memory interrogated, displayed faults rectified and event memory erased.
- Start the corresponding routine in "Guided Functions".

Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque wrenches - V.A.G 1331-
Note
- No provision is made for repairs to brake vacuum pump - V192- . If a fault occurs, the vacuum pump for brakes - V192- must be renewed.
- The vacuum pump for brakes - V192- is fitted in the engine support.
Removing:
Caution Take care not to damage the vacuum hose. A damaged vacuum hose is to be renewed. |
- Pull vacuum hose -1- and connector -2- off vacuum pump for brakes - V192- - A-.
- Loosen and remove bolts -1- and -2-.
- Remove holder with the vacuum pump for brakes - V192- .
- Unfasten both clips on vacuum pump and detach.
- Pull the vacuum pump for brakes - V192- upwards out of the bracket.
Installation:
- Insert vacuum pump in bracket.
Note Ensure that the seating of the vacuum pump in the holder is correct.
The vacuum connection must point in the direction of travel.
- Lock the vacuum pump in the holder with both clips.
- Install holder with the vacuum pump in the vehicle.
- Tighten bolts -1- and -2-.
Caution Take care not to damage the vacuum hose. A damaged vacuum hose is to be renewed. |
- Attach vacuum hose -1- to the vacuum pump for brakes - V192- .
- Connect the electric connector -2-.
Specified torques

Note No provision is made for repairs to brake vacuum pump - V192- .
If a fault occurs, the vacuum pump for brakes - V192- must be renewed.
Removing:
- Remove noise insulation.
Caution Take care not to damage the vacuum hose. A damaged vacuum hose is to be renewed. |
- Disconnect electric connector -4- from the vacuum pump for brake - V192- -1-.
- Pull vacuum hose -3- off vacuum pump for brakes - V192- -1-.
- Remove vacuum pump for brake - V192- upwards -in the direction of the arrow-, by loosening it from the rubber damper in the bracket -2-.
Installation:
- Carry out installation in the reverse sequence, noting the following:
Note If an electrical vacuum pump is replaced, the bracket of the pump must be replaced.
